How to install on Ubuntu

Fastest path: one command in Terminal. Or download the .deb and double-click it.

curl -fsSL https://download.grain.sh/install-linux.sh | bash

Downloads the latest .deb and installs with apt (password prompt once).

1. Download Debian / Ubuntu above → file lands in ~/Downloads/
2. GUI: open Files → Downloads → double-click Grain_…_amd64.deb → Install (enter password when asked)
3. Or Terminal:

   cd ~/Downloads
   sudo apt install ./Grain-latest-linux-amd64.deb
   # if the file has a version in the name:
   # sudo apt install ./Grain_0.7.41_amd64.deb

4. Open Grain from the app grid (search “Grain”), or run grain in a terminal

1. Download AppImage above
2. Make it executable and run:

   cd ~/Downloads
   chmod +x Grain-latest-linux-x86_64.AppImage
   ./Grain-latest-linux-x86_64.AppImage

3. Or right-click the AppImage → Properties → Permissions → “Allow executing as program”, then double-click

After first launch, sign in at app.grain.sh from the app. Need local agents? Install Claude Code, Codex, Grok CLI, Gemini CLI, Kimi Code, OpenCode, Nico Code, or more on that machine — Grain’s local executor drives them. If apt reports missing deps, run sudo apt -f install once.

“Windows protected your PC”

Grain for Windows is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen shows a warning. The installer is still safe — this is a trust label, not a virus scan failure.

1. Run the downloaded Grain_…_x64-setup.exe
2. When SmartScreen appears, click More info
3. Click Run anyway
4. Complete the installer and open Grain from the Start menu

macOS builds are notarized. Linux packages need no OS signature. Windows Authenticode signing is planned.
