Availability clarification — September 8, 2026
This earlier article described the intended database-backed app workflow too broadly. A generated schema or interface does not by itself provision a working database. Static grain.site publishing has no private database runtime by default. Supabase and MongoDB connection options remain in development and must not be treated as connected until setup and verification succeed.
From convincing screen to working system
A prototype often looks complete long before it can remember anything. The interface works, the flow makes sense, and then someone still has to design tables, connect queries, and wire every action to persistent data.
Generated Grain apps can now include their database from the start. A Mission can define the information the tool needs, create the structure, and connect the resulting interface to it in the same run.
Built for iteration
The data layer remains part of the work, not a black box behind it. Teams can inspect the schema, revise fields, and keep changing the app as the operating process becomes clearer. That matters because internal tools rarely arrive with a perfect specification.
The practical effect is less handoff between design and implementation. A tracker, approval queue, research repository, or lightweight CRM can start with useful persistence and stay editable as the team learns.
- Generate an interface and its underlying records together.
- Keep data structures inspectable and editable.
- Move from prototype to operational tool with fewer setup steps.
